Not Legal Advice

Nothing on this site constitutes legal advice. Cannabis remains a Schedule I controlled substance under United States federal law. State laws regarding cannabis possession, cultivation, sale, and use vary significantly and change frequently. If you have questions about cannabis law in your jurisdiction, consult a licensed attorney.

The legal information presented on this site — including discussion of the Controlled Substances Act, the Marihuana Tax Act, state legalization laws, and court decisions — is historical context, not current legal guidance.

Not Medical Advice

Nothing on this site constitutes medical advice. This site does not recommend, endorse, or discourage the use of cannabis or any cannabis-derived product for any medical condition. Discussion of historical medical cannabis use, scientific research, and pharmacological discoveries is presented as historical information, not as clinical guidance.

If you have questions about cannabis and your health, consult a licensed healthcare provider.

Federal Status

As of the date of last review, cannabis (marijuana) remains classified as a Schedule I controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. § 812). Schedule I substances are defined as having "a high potential for abuse," "no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States," and "a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug under medical supervision."

Federal law applies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and US territories, regardless of state legalization status. This site takes no position on whether the current federal classification is appropriate.
